Scarborough-based charity Futureworks NY is getting ready for the new academic year with the announcement of its 2026 Study Works placements from 7th September 2026.
Places are available for Year 10 (and older) students and learners can choose from either one-to-one sessions or to work with a small group.

Study Works was launched in December 2025 and was an immediate success.

Study Works assists learners to gain City & Guilds Functional Skills Maths and English, from Entry Level 3 up to and including Level 2.

Sarah Thornton, co-founder of the charity, said: “Our Study Works programme proved to be very popular after its launch.

“As one of Scarborough’s local charities, we are aware that some learners in the area were looking for an alternative approach to acquiring qualifications.

“Qualifications can for a bedrock of knowledge which can help learners find an apprenticeship, secure a place at college while also giving them confidence and boosting self-esteem.”

The Study Works system is centred around the learner and there are one-to-one sessions available for just £30 per hour.

Group sessions are also available with a maximum of six students and £15 per person per hour.

Michelle Padron-Kitching, co-founder of the charity, explained: “Study Works gives participants more control over their learning.

“Exams are taken when the learner is ready and isn’t controlled by the school year which simply adds to the pressure.

“The learning space in Victoria Road, Scarborough, provides a spacious classroom and facilities in which students can focus on their work.

“Maths and English qualifications may be needed for college admission or apprenticeships, and some people simply didn't achieve these qualifications at school.

“We encourage development for all levels of ability with our friendly yet professional qualified team.”

Places are available starting 7th September on a first-come, first-served basis. Prices include the full package of supported learning and exam fees.
