Each year, Futureworks NY supports over a hundred young people and adults in Scarborough, yet our waiting lists reveal that many more desperately need our assistance.
Since achieving full charity status in July 2023, our mission has been to empower clients to reach their potential through innovative learning, motivation, and support.
Founded in 2012 as a CIC, we have evolved to provide holistic guidance and opportunities for vulnerable and disengaged individuals.
Our work encompasses helping young people develop vital life skills, achieve accredited qualifications, and progress towards employment, college, or apprenticeships.
Our impact extends to economically inactive adults, whom we help move closer to employment, foster social connections, and reduce isolation in our community.
Through personalised support, skills training, and accredited qualifications, we offer opportunities that many take for granted.
However, our waiting list continues to grow, sometimes daily, highlighting the urgent need for flexible ‘freedom funding’ through sponsorship, donations, and fundraising.
Freedom funding enables us to respond swiftly and adaptively to our clients’ needs, breaking free from the restrictions imposed by traditional grants.
While we understand that appeals for donations are common, Futureworks NY’s commitment is to prepare individuals for a brighter future.
Even modest contributions make a tangible difference: £10 covers a day’s travel for a client, £100 replaces workshop equipment, and £5,000 sponsors a young person for an entire year, including access to alternative teaching and qualifications.
Many of you may recall facing barriers to learning—perhaps traditional classroom environments didn’t suit you, or formal teaching methods felt uninspiring.
Today’s young people and adults confront additional pressures, with social media adding new challenges to daily life.
Supporting Futureworks NY is easy and impactful.
Donations can be made online or at our retail premises, Furniture Works on St Thomas Street, Scarborough.
Furniture Works not only raises funds through the sale of bespoke creations made by our clients, but also accepts spare change and donated furniture, offering a sustainable alternative to landfill.
Fundraising needn’t be extreme—while skydiving and marathons are welcome, any activity that inspires you can help.
We’re honoured to have been chosen by Scalby Fair and the Scalby Fair Charity Walk and we were thrilled to receive £1,500 from this year’s Easter Charity Walk.
If you have an idea, or have been motivated by the recent London Marathon, we’d love to hear from you.
Businesses and organisations are invited to explore bespoke sponsorship packages, tailored to promote your support across our website, social media, and more.
With each package individually crafted, partnering with us is a unique opportunity to showcase your commitment to the community.
Corporate support is vital, too; Scarborough’s Peace of Mind Financial Services has named us their charity of the year, and local firms have contributed items that enhance our clients’ experiences.
Looking ahead, our vision is to become increasingly self-sustainable by generating income from fundraising, sponsorship, and donations.
Greater freedom funding reduces our reliance on tied grants, allowing us to respond quickly to learners’ immediate needs.
By our 15th anniversary in 2027, we aim to expand into a larger, ideally self-owned building, maintaining our flexible, responsive approach.
Our goal is to increase the number of learners we support by 40% while continuing to adapt to the evolving needs of our Scarborough community.
There are many ways to help: follow us on social media, visit our website, or consider volunteering.
Every action helps us build a brighter, more inclusive future for those who need it most.
